El Sureo, coronel de guerrilleros revolucionarios, se presenta ante el ministro de guerra para solicitar su baja del ejrcito. Se le pide un ltimo servicio a la patria: que se traslade al estado norteo de Sonora a averiguar por que las autoridades civiles y militares no han podido lograr una paz duradera con el pueblo Yaqui. El Sureo se presenta en la regin hacindose pasar por un vaquero y se ofrece a llevar el ganado de un ranchero para poder investigar. Ya en el lugar el Sureo descubre que el prefecto poltico es el causante de todos los problemas al hostigar a los indios para echarlos de sus tierras y poder apoderarse de ellas.
