In August of 1991, a black boy was killed in a car driven by a Hasidic Jewish man in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. Based on a true story, this film dramatizes the efforts of a black youth leader (Van Peebles) and an energetic Hasidic rabbi (Mandel) to bring the polarized communities together after this tragic accident. During this time, two teens, Yudi Simon (Blackman) and T.J. Moses (Henderson) forge a friendship based on a mutual love of rap music and dance. Two groups that have suffered persecution throughout the centuries embrace tolerance and discover that progress is possible.
