Crossing international borders and luring the viewer into the midst of recent political uprisings and conflicts, CHICO is a complex hybrid of biography, documentary and history that explores the political absurdities of the last 30 years. A "Spanish-Hungarian, Catholic-Jewish communist," Chico is a child of revolution, raised on Che Guevara and the Virgin Mary. After escaping from Pinochets Chile, Chico becomes a globe-trotting journalist-turned freedom fighter, embarking on a complex political odyssey through Hungary, Russia, Albania, Israel, and Croatia, until he ends up in the Balkan War during the 1990s. Loosely-based on the life of Eduardo Rzsa Flores, the actor who plays Chico, this film is an ambitious exploration of revolution, idealism, globalization and the absurdity of war.
