East Side Kids Double Feature: Ghosts On The Loose & Spooks Run Wild

Two East Side Kids comedies (Leo Gorcey, Huntz Hall, etc.--this ensemble was also known as the Dead End Kids and the Bowery Boys at different times) with ghostly, spooky themes, both featuring Bela Lugosi, are each described separately below:GHOSTS ON THE LOOSE (1943) - The Bowery Boys (the East Side Kids) end up in comedic horror when they try to renovate a crumbling house for Glimpy's newlywed sister and her husband. When they arrive at the address, they mistakenly start to work on the house next door--which is rumored to be haunted. Instead of ghosts, however, the Boys find a group of Nazi spies, led by Bela Lugosi (DRACULA). Ava Gardner (THE KILLERS and MOGAMBO) makes her first credited appearance in this film, billed directly under Lugosi.SPOOKS RUN WILD (1941) - The East Side Kids get a chance to sample the other side of life when they are sent to the country to learn how to live beyond the streets. Unfortunately, however, the house they're staying in turns out to be haunted by mad killer Bela Lugosi (DRACULA).
