Bach composed his Mass in B Minor while he was deathly ill near the end of his life, and he would not live to see his magnificent church music performed. The late Karl Richter, a masterful conductor, organist, and harpsichord player, and one of the most inspired interpreters of Bach music, leads the Munich Bach Symphony in a remarkable rendition of the Mass. Joining Richter and the orchestra are virtuoso soloists Gundula Janowitz (soprano) and Hermann Prey (bass-baritone).
