Facing a bleak future outside the ring, he turns to his unscrupulous manager, Maish Resnick (Gleason), for help - not suspecting that Resnick is desperate for cash himself and willing to sell out his once-star fighter to the seedy world of fake wrestling "Requiem for a Heavyweight" was originally created in 1957 as an episode of the classic "Playhouse 90" TV anthology series. When the televised, live production met with remarkable critical acclaim, Serling and director Nelson brought the story to the big screen with the help of producer David Susskind and Columbia Pictures.
